Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) organized a Stakeholder Consultative Workshop on the 27th January 2015 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) whose main objective was to pave way for the development and implementation of the Botswana Trade Information Portal.
The Workshop was attended by various government Departments and private sector stakeholders that deal directly with trade-related matters. The Trade Portal will be a web-based state of the art system that will enhance import and export by way of providing the business community both here and globally with a comprehensive, timely and up to date source of critical information relating to trade in Botswana as and when needed. When fully functional, the Portal will be used to store all documents relating to trade in Botswana as opposed to the current situation where critical trade documents, application forms, licenses, permits, trading rules and requirements reside with different government Departments and are not easy to access. It will also catalogue various international, regional and bi-lateral trade agreements that Botswana is party to as well the numerous benefits therefrom.
This will mark an important milestone in the country’s efforts to avail reliable and up to date information to Traders and other Stakeholder as part of wide-ranging regulatory reforms aimed at making it easier to do business in Botswana.
The Trade Portal is being developed in conjunction with the World Bank as well as the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
