As a good corporate citizen, BITC endeavours to embark on charitable projects that uplift the lives of Batswana through our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program. As BITC, we are encouraged to support and improve the lives of children who form part of the most vulnerable groups of our society whilst uplifting the quality of life of Batswana. Through a fact finding mission we identified an ominous need in the Health Sector, particularly in remote villages that act as service centres for several other villages. The community of Rakops through Rakops Primary Hospital was identified by BITC as deserving beneficiary of the organisation’s CSI. The beneficiaries of this project are particularly children who are assisted on an out-patient basis in the Child Welfare Clinic (CWC) and those admitted in the Children's Ward in Rakops Primary Hospital. The BITC undertook the following on this CSI project;
- Refurbished and resourced the Children’s Ward;
- Painted the existing interior of the ward in vibrant children’s colours with kiddies murals,
- Purchased of a television and DVD set and a year subscription on DSTV (including a mountable stand and children’s videos)
- Purchased and set-up of playground equipment - jungle gym, mini pit trampoline, swings, slides and slings,
- Purchased children’s chairs/benches.
Rakops Primary Hospital is a second beneficiary to the BITC CSI since the inception of the entity in 2012. This project comes subsequent to the successful implementation of our pioneer CSI Project at Ikageng Junior Secondary School, being the construction of a Guidance and Counselling Centre in Metsimotlhabe. BITC continues to take this noble CSI idea further to assist more Batswana and make a footprint in the wider breath of the country where there is dire need. The donation and handover ceremony of the refurbished Children’s Ward and Playground took place on March 27, 2015 at Rakops Primary Hospital.
The Chief Executive Officer, Letsebe Sejoe stated that, “As a non-profit making organisation, BITC employed various ways of raising funds for this project which was through encouraging employees to donate funds, clothes, toys and funds. The sponsorship of the Children’s Ward refurbishment and donation of a playground will go a long way in fulfilling the aspirations of Vision 2016 particularly the pillar of building “A Compassionate, Just and Caring Nation.”
