Export Development and Promotion

The pursuit of export-led growth is a priority objective of the Government of Botswana’s transformational agenda. Increasing the level of exports and diversifying the composition of exports is of crucial importance in sustainable future growth. Historically, Botswana’s economic growth has been export-led, spurred mostly by diamond exports. In recognition of the challenges presented by over-reliance on one commodity, the government is continuously pursuing policies and programs to spur export diversification and achievement of higher income status.

BITC’s Export Development and Promotion mandate aims to promote the growth of non-diamond goods and services to ensure sustained GDP growth, balance of payments stability and employment creation. To this end, BITC offers several export support programs targeted at assisting the private sector with local and international market access. Specifically, BITC’s export services include:

  • Export readiness capacity building
  • Export advisory services and tailor-made company support.
  • Organizing inward and outward trade missions targeting potential buyers.
  • Organizing and participating in buyer seller meetings.
  • Assisting companies to comply with export market requirements such as mandatory and voluntary standards.
  • Dissemination of trade and market information.
  • Generation of trade leads.
  • Export product development and adaptation support.
  • Hosting of Global Expo Botswana, an annual premium business to business Expo hosted by BITC annually.
